Police Department Millage Proposal Townhall Meeting

Police Department Ballot Proposal Townhall

On the Aug. 8, 2023 ballot you will see a proposal to replace and increase the current police millage from 4.5 mills to 5.425 mills for 5 yrs. beginning in Dec. of 2023, adjusted annually due to the Headlee Amendment. The increase would be used to reinstate full staffing levels in the Police Department which were reduced in 2008 due to the impact of the housing crisis on tax revenues. This would entail hiring 3 new full-time officers to eliminate “one man staffing” and allow for a full-time School Resource Officer.

The Northfield Township Police Department will be holding a Townhall Meeting on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 7:00pm at Living Water Church (200 Barker Rd., Whitmore Lake). This will be an informational meeting where the Police Department will be available to answer your questions concerning the millage proposal.

If you are not able to attend and would like more information, please do not hesitate to reach out to Police Chief Marty Smith at smithm@northfieldmi.gov or (734) 449-9911 x115.
